Zooplankton recovery from a whole‐lake disturbance: Examining roles of abiotic factors, biotic interactions, and traits

چکیده

Community assembly following disturbance is a key process in determining the composition and function of future community. However, replicated studies community at whole-ecosystem scales are rare. Here, we describe series whole-lake experiments, which recovery zooplankton communities was tracked an ecosystem-scale disturbance, that is, application piscicide, rotenone. Using before-after-control-impact design, 14 lakes eastern Washington were studied: Seven treated with rotenone, while seven acted as reference systems. Each lake monitored up to 6 months before 1–2 years after rotenone treatments. Zooplankton samples environmental measurements collected approximately monthly from each lake. responses assessed using metrics abundance, diversity, composition, well taxonomic group abundance. also species traits related habitat, feeding mode, trophic level, body size, life history. In addition patterns recovery, potential mechanisms explored relating abiotic conditions, biotic interactions, traits. There steep declines abundance (average across years: 99%) diversity 75%) treatment. Although had recovered by second year study, not fully 2 years. Communities appeared be compositionally within about 8 disturbance. Cyclopoid copepods typically first recover remained dominant for few months, whereas cladocerans more slowly, ~6–7 Calanoid Traits size mode associated We failed observe significant spatial synchrony lakes, though did groups lakes. These findings suggest ecological function, lesser extent, biotic, factors, characteristics itself, may important helping understand processes.

Tritrophic Interactions Across Biotic and Abiotic Gradients

Responses to previous reviews This LTREB proposal was submitted in January, 2008 and was not funded. The reviewer and panel comments were very helpful in drafting a revision and in contemplating the long-term research goals of the PI. All reviewer comments prompted changes in this proposal; the most notable concerns and criticisms (italicized and shortened) from the panel summary are directly a...

Biotic and Abiotic Interactions in Ecosystems

Biotic and Abiotic Interactions in Ecosystems Plants live in complex environments where many biotic and abiotic factors limit or promote productivity and carbon biosequestration. Temperature and water extremes, nutrient and other resource availabilities, microbeinduced diseases, and insect attacks can limit plant productivity. At the same time, this productivity intimately depends on plant inte...

Roles of NAC transcription factors in the regulation of biotic and abiotic stress responses in plants

NAC transcription factors are one of the largest families of transcriptional regulators in plants, and members of the NAC gene family have been suggested to play important roles in the regulation of the transcriptional reprogramming associated with plant stress responses. A phylogenetic analysis of NAC genes, with a focus on rice and Arabidopsis, was performed. Herein, we present an overview of...

Assembly of root-associated bacteria communities: interactions between abiotic and biotic factors.

Nitrogen (N) deposition in many areas of the world is over an order of magnitude greater than it would be in absence of human activity. We ask how abiotic (N)and biotic (plant host and neighborhood) effects interact to influence root-associated bacterial (RAB)community assembly. Using 454 pyrosequencing, we examined RAB communities from two dominantal pine tundra plants, Geum rossii and Descham...
